Hi Rene,

I really wouldn't advise relying on the scans for alignment between paint transfers, because the pages were photographed bound and hand-trimmed in a graphics editor (both of which introduce secondary offset errors). It's one of those things you have to actually go to the Beinecke to check properly (<em>will you be going back soon?</em>)

Oh, and the mini-text column on the top right of f75v is a new one to me, nice find! :-)

Cheers, ....Nick Pelling....

Having looked at the paint transfer between 78v and 81r, shown above, I am not fully
convinced that 81r is really the source of the small spot on 78v.
I think that there could be three spots in this area. I'll have another look in the coming days...

More interestingly, I saw again something I had completely forgotten about, namely
the six individual characters in the upper right corner of f75v. They don't fully align with the text.
They have also not been discussed as much as their counterpart on the facing page f76r
(if at all)...

Cheers, Rene

Hi Rene,

I somehow doubt there remain any sides of the VMs you haven't thought of over the years. :-)

The point of the post was to draw attention not only to this Q13a/Q13b split, but also to the (far from obvious, I think) parallels between Herbal-A-vs-Herbal-B drawings and Q13b-vs-Q13a drawings, and to try to tease out what that might mean for the overall timeline of the VMs' construction.

Of course, I'm probably guilty here of not separating out my hypotheses and observations quite as clearly as you would like: but it should be pretty obvious what I'm thinking of. :-)

This is both interesting and odd, since some years ago I had wondered about this very same
possiblilty, namely that this quire could consist of two separate parts: bio- versus balneo-
and I came to the conclusion that it wasn't the case.
I will have to take another look now...
(And no, I am not claiming priority :-) ).
